Ladies with red, black, brown and blond hair can mix and match makeup looks that will take advantage of the color and play up their stunning features. Here’s a run-down of what kinds of products and techniques you should be looking for based on your hair.

If you’re blond
Lighter hair is gorgeous, but it’s easier to go overboard with your makeup color choices, according to Marie Claire magazine. With such a pale color surrounding your face, colorful features often take center stage. As a result, it’s best to choose one feature to make pop rather than several. If you want to draw attention to your eyes, use dark or neutral shadows to create contrast, like you’d find in the Jane Iredale – PurePressed Eye Shadow collection. The same goes for eyeliners and mascara. A lighter lip color, like peach, will complement darker eyes. One thing to keep in mind is the color of your eyebrows. Whether you keep them darker than your hair color or match them to it, it’s crucial to keep brows filled in with Paula Dorf – 2 + 1 for Brows to avoid them looking scarce.

If you’re a redhead
Neutral shades are a redhead’s best friends, as they won’t compete with the vibrant color of your locks. Browns and greens work well on their own, but layering brighter colors with toned-down shades will create a subtle burst of color. Pick up a compact with plenty of variety, like POP Beauty – Eye Cake, which has chic options. Marie Claire also suggests using purple as one of your go-to shades, as well as other jewel tones, so experiment with violet eyeliners and plum lipsticks. BORGHESE – B Moisture Advanced Care Lipcolour has plenty of purple choices that will make your lips truly luscious.

If your hair is black
Ladies should “play up the mysterious, sexy vibe of black hair by accentuating just one feature with sultry color,” Jerrod Blandino, founder and creative director of Too Faced Cosmetics, told Women’s Health magazine. Use colorful smokey eyeshadow paired with sheer cheek and lip tints, like you’d get with GloMinerals – gloTint for Cheeks & Lips. Plenty of mascara will pull together the look, so apply one coat of Blinc – Mascara then let it dry before coating lashes with another application. Use a lash comb to separate them afterwards for a feathery look.

If you’re a brunette
With brown hair, you can pull off a variety of colorful makeup looks. Brighter colors look fresh against a neutral brown shade, so try out something like vibrant orange lipstick or navy blue eyeshadow. Marie Claire warns not to forget about your eyebrows however, as they make a natural frame for your face. Colorescience – Eyebrow Stencil can help you achieve the desired shape. Feel free to experiment with a variety of colors, and don’t forget that shimmery shades and glitter can be fun for a night out!

Don’t forget that you can always switch up the color of your hair, so you don’t have to stick with the same coloring all the time. Even subtle highlights can open up a variety of makeup looks to experiment with, so don’t be afraid to ask your stylist for color advice.

There’s nothing quite like New Years to bring out the best in people. Everyone wants to start off the new year afresh, whether it means amping up your workout routine, vowing to cut down on your chocolate intake or even to take a few more risks in life. If you’re already creating a list of resolutions for 2012, you might want to include a few beauty-related tasks to ensure that your skin, nails, hair and body get the treatment they deserve. Here are some ideas to consider, inspired by The Beauty Department.

1. Wear sunscreen. Every. Single. Day. Although many women have been bombarded by the media when it comes to how damaging the sun’s rays are, that hasn’t stopped some from skipping the sunscreen. Ensure the protection of your skin by slathering it on in the morning as part of your routine – not just before you’re going to the beach. Makeup like Dermablend – Cover Creme SPF 30 will ensure that you’re getting coverage in more ways than one.

2. Fake it, don’t bake it. If you’re still heading to the tanning bed to get your glow on, cut it out already! Tanning beds are no safer than the sun, and some experts argue that they can do even more damage since you’re receiving direct exposure. Get a faux bronze look by using self-tanners like TanTowel – Self-Tan Towelette. These make the application process a breeze and they won’t leave any tell-tale streaks.

3. Exfoliate at least once a week. Getting rid of dead skin cells is the key to a glowing complexion that’s not dull or flaky. Use an exfoliating scrub for your face once or twice a week, and a rich scrub for your body in the shower. Get Fresh – SPA Sugar Body Scrub is the perfect treat.

4. Find your signature scent. There’s nothing like a fresh fragrance to remind people of you even when you’re not around, but it’s not possible if you’re always switching up your perfume. Take the time to find out what smells best on you, then invest in a few different products in the scent to ensure that you’re always exuding the aroma.

5. Don’t go to sleep without taking off your makeup. Leaving makeup on while you’re in bed at night is never a good idea. Your pores can become clogged, leading to acne, irritation and an overall messy complexion. Even if you’re too tired to wash it all off, keep a stash of wipes near your bed and use it to gently remove any product. Rilastil – Daily Care Make-Up Removing Wipes are the perfect thing.

6. Clean out your collection. Now’s the perfect time to go through your medicine cabinet, makeup bag and toiletry stash and get rid of anything old. Most products have an expiration date on them, but if you can’t remember when you got it, it’s definitely worth tossing. Expired products won’t work as well and could cause problems for your skin if you continue to use them.

7. Embrace your hair’s natural texture. Your strands could use a break from heat tools every now and then, so you should become comfortable with your hair’s natural state. That doesn’t mean you have to skip products altogether – a great anti-frizz serum like Leonor Greyl – Serum de Soie Sublimateur can do wonders.

8. Stop biting your nails. Every now and then, we all slip up and go to town nibbling that pesky jagged edge or hangnail – but you have to stop! Carry a nail file in your bag for on-the-go fixes and keep your nails polished and cute so you won’t feel the urge to bite them.

As long as you incorporate some or all of these beauty resolutions, 2012 should be your most beautiful year yet!

Eyes are often the first thing people look at. When you take in someone’s face, you’re not going to hone in on their lips or notice the shape of their nose. You’ll be taking in their eyes – what color they are and what kind of vibe they’re giving off. Some people say eyes are the windows into people’s souls, so if you want to tweak just one thing about your makeup look, you may want to consider defining your eyes.

A set of fabulous fringe will definitely do the trick to getting your eyes even more attention than they normally get, but not everyone was born with thick, full lashes. Luckily there are plenty of ways you can upgrade your lashes and make them look as full and lush as you wish they were.

All you need are a few tools and products and you’ll be on your way to luxurious eyelashes in no time. The first thing you want to invest in is a good eyelash curler, like Talika – Heated Eye Lash Curler. Curling your lashes will make them look fuller and longer because they’ll be more noticeable than if they were sticking straight out. A heated curler gets you fast results that will last all day, but even the regular curlers, like Paula Dorf – CURL-UP Eyelash Curler work great.

The next thing you need is a great mascara. There are plenty of different kinds out there that do exactly what they say they’re going to do, whether it’s adding volume, lengthening, thickening or defining. Some kinds, like ModelCo – Fiber Lash Extreme Lash Extension Mascara Kit have fibers in the formula which bind to your lashes and make them look much longer. It’s like fake lashes in a tube! Finding the right kind for you just depends on what kind of look you’re going for. Once you find a mascara that you like, you may want to invest in a shimmery topcoat that you can add on top of it for a little extra sparkle on special occasions.

When you apply mascara, it’s always a good idea to apply two or three coats. This will make sure every one of your lashes is covered and you’re getting the effect you want. It’s important to allow each coat to dry before adding more on, otherwise you won’t be building the product. Use a lash comb like Youngblood – Synthetic Eyebrow/Eyelash Defining Brush after each coat to make sure your lashes are separated and don’t have any clumps.

For really special occasions where you want to go all-out with your fringe, you may want to try a pair of false lashes. All you have to do is apply the glue either to your lash line or on the edge of the falsies, then use a pair of tweezers to hold the lashes and press them onto your lash line. It’s crucial to get them as close to your own lashes as possible. If you don’t want the full effect, ModelCo – Lash Out Individual Lashes + Glue can give you just a hint of length by adding a few lashes into the middle of your lids or on the outer corners.

After you apply false lashes, cover up the line by smudging an eyeliner over it, then using mascara to blend the fake lashes with your real ones. Your eyes will pop and you’ll feel like a supermodel every time you blink.

As long as you choose the right mascara for your lashes and take the time to curl them before you apply it, you’ll hardly need any other eye makeup to make your eyes look wide awake and beautiful.

Believe it or not, many of your most cherished makeup and skincare products may be causing damage to your health. The cosmetics industry is largely self-regulated and can market products without having to approve ingredients with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The ingredients are often tested in terms of short-term effects, meaning companies look for immediate adverse reactions rather than damaging long-term conditions. Even if your skin isn’t showing any signs of distress, some harmful ingredients may cause cancer or alter your hormonal balance.

According to the FDA, the two most important laws about cosmetics marketed in the U.S. are the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA).

The FD&C Act prohibits the marketing of “adulterated and misbranded” cosmetics. A cosmetic is considered adulterated if:
• It contains a poisonous or dangerous substance which makes it harmful to users when used following directions.
• It contains any “filthy, putrid or decomposed” substance.
• It has been prepared or packaged under unsanitary conditions and is therefore contaminated.
• The container is made from a poisonous or dangerous material.
• It contains an unsafe color additive (except for hair dyes, which have more specific conditions).

Misbranded products are improperly labeled or deceptively packaged. If the labeling is wrong or misleading, doesn’t include required information or doesn’t prominently display information, it is subject to regulatory action. This is supposed to make consumers able to make informed decisions about which products they are using, but unfortunately many people fail to read the ingredients on products before they buy them.

In order to make sure you’re not exposing yourself to potentially hazardous ingredients in your makeup and skin care products, avoid using products which list one or more of the following ingredients on the label, according to OrganicBeautyTalk.com.

• Alcohol, Isopropyl. This is a drying and irritating ingredient that takes moisture away from your skin and degenerates your skin’s natural immune barrier, making you more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses. It may also promote premature skin aging. It’s made from a petroleum derivative and is found in skin and hair products, fragrance, and antibacterial products. Use a more natural cleanser, like Archipelago Botanicals – Morning Mint Soap, instead.

• DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) & TEA (triethanolamine). These ingredients are restricted in Europe because of their known carcinogenic effects, but the U.S. has yet to regulate them. The chemicals may disprupt your hormones and can form cancer-causing nitrates in your body.

• Fragrance (Parfum). If a label includes synthetic fragrance, it could represent thousands of separate ingredients used to scent products, many of which are considered toxic or carcinogenic. Fragrance chemicals and ingredients have been associated with respiratory issues, reproductive issues, skin discoloration and even changes in the central nervous system. It’s better to scent products yourself with essential oils, or buy organic products like Janson Beckett – Certified Organic Cleansing Milk.

• Mineral Oil, Petrolatum. This ingredient is a petroleum by-product that coats skin like a plastic, which clogs pores and prevents skin from eliminating toxins. This can cause acne and slow skin development – resulting in premature aging. It dissolves your skin’s natural oil and causes dry skin.

• Parabens. These ingredients often start with prefixes like propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl and methyl. They are preservatives which mimic estrogen and can disrupt your hormone systems. Many products these days are labeled paraben-free, such as PRIORI – CoffeeBerry Perfecting Minerals Foundation SPF 25 – Perfecting Foundation 4, which is 100 percent natural.

Next time you’re looking to buy beauty products, be sure to search for the ingredients and avoid those which could negatively affect your health!

Many Asian women get frustrated with eye makeup, which doesn’t always play up gorgeous eye shapes and might not show when your eye is open. Fortunately, there are tons of tricks, techniques and looks that you can use to pull off fabulous eye makeup that will enhance your unique features.

Techniques to try

1. Use foundation or a makeup primer on your eyelids. This will make sure your shadow stays on and lasts all day.

2. Eyes will look bigger if you layer your eyeshadow. Use darker colors close to your lash lines and lighter colors as you go upward on your lids. This gradual change of tone will give the illusion of depth.

3. When using an eyeliner (like Sothys – Waterproof Soft Eye Pencil, which comes with a smudge tool) to define bottom lash lines, smudge it out. This will prevent your eyes from looking smaller and bring your outer edges forward, creating a larger look.

4. Full brows and lips will keep your eye makeup looking natural. Use an eyebrow pencil to shade in sparse areas and a plumping gloss to amp up your pout.

5. If you have monolids, there’s no need to fake a crease with eyeshadow if you tailor your look to work for you.

6. Do your eye makeup before the rest of your face. This will prevent any loose shadow or mascara clumps from falling onto your cheeks as you’re applying.

7. If you’re going with false eyelashes, use individual lashes for a more natural look that will make your eyes appear wider.

Looks to try

1. Everyday glamour. This style works great if you don’t want a heavy makeup look or are just starting to experiment with eye makeup. To create defined eyes, sweep on a cool brown or plum eyeshadow, like one from Pixi – Eye Beauty Kit, along your top and lower lash lines. Go up your lid a little bit so it will show. Use a dark brown liner on your top lash lines, curl your lashes and apply a lengthening mascara. Chic and easy!

2. Modern smokey eye. This edgy look works great on all skin tones and even on close-set eyes. Use a warm brown eyeshadow all over your lids and slightly above the creases. Extend the color straight out beyond the outer corners if your eyes are closely set. Do the same with your lower lash lines, then apply dark brown or black eyeshadow over the top and bottom lash lines, without extending outward. Go over the top of the lash line with a black eyeliner, curl lashes and use plenty of lengthening mascara. Pair with pink lips for a cute touch.

3. Glowing goddess. An allover glow will give fair-skinned ladies a touch of radiance. Use a shimmery light gold shadow three-quarters of the way up your lids as well as on your inner corners and lower lash line. Use an olive green eyeshadow along the upper lash lines, making it thicker as you get to the outer corners. Go over the top lash line with a black eyeliner, then line the inner rims of your bottom lids. Curl your lashes and top with mascara for a fresh-faced look.

4. Bronzed babe. This, warm, monochromatic look compliments a tanned skin tone. Use a nude eyeshadow all over your lid, then apply a cool brown shadow from your lash lines to just above your creases. Sweep a dark brown or black eyeliner over your upper lash line and on your lower inner rims. Curl your lashes and use a brown or black mascara. Finish with a bit of bronzer and an apricot gloss.

Just when you’ve mastered the summer makeup look, September rolls around and it’s time for a seasonal update. Luckily, this fall’s trends are easy to create and wearable with just about everything in your wardrobe, so making the switch should be effortless.

1. Metallic smokey eyes are totally in for fall and ready to spice up your night-time look. Just use your regular smoky-eye makeup (dark liner, dark shadow) and add a pop of a metallic shade like gold, bronze or silver to add a smoldering touch. Too Faced – Smokey Eye Kit can help you master the effect.

2. Dark red lips are bold but perfect for a bit of glamour. Keep the rest of your makeup simple to avoid any color competition, and make your lips the center of attention. Choose a wine-inspired color, and add a touch of clear gloss to achieve your own pout perfection.

3. Eyeliner is your best bet for adding definition, but rather than creating a perfect line, smudge it up a bit. Use a powder instead on your top lash lines and go over it with a wet brush for a soft, blended look.

4. Neutral colors are always in, but this fall’s version uses matching shades for a monochromatic look. Use a product like Jane Iredale – In Touch Cream Blush Stick for eyelids, cheeks, and lips. You’ll have a fast, easy application and a simple, pretty glow.

5. Ultra defined lashes are in for fall, so pick your favorite mascara and go a little overboard with multiple coats to make those peepers really pop. Skip the eyeliner and play up just your top lashes for a wide-eyed effect.

6. Matte lipstick is all the rage, and pretty pinks and corals are your best bets for making a serious impact. Use a lipstick brush to start at the center of lips and wing it out into the corners. Apply a bit of powder on top for a shine-free finish that will leave your lips looking soft and kissable.

7. Flushed cheeks are cute for any season, and fall is no exception. For a lasting impression, use a cream blush, which will stay put and make your skin look dewy. Use on the apples of your cheeks to define your facial shape.

8. Nude lips are extra sexy when you keep them glossy. A nude lipstick and matching gloss will warm up your face without making you feel naked, and you won’t have to worry about a perfect application because it will blend right in!

9. A glowing, candlelit effect on your skin is perfect for fall, as long as you stay away from overly shimmery or frosty shades. Choose a warm, peachy highlighter to smooth on the tops of your cheekbones, brow bones and the inner corners of your eyes for a fresh take.

10. It may seem a little strange at first, but glossy eyelids look fresh and pretty. Just put on your normal shade of eyeshadow and top with a touch of lip gloss. A clear shade will let your eyeshadow shine through, but if you’re feeling a little daring, use a tinted lip gloss for a little extra oomph.

11. You can relax when it comes to plucking your eyebrows this fall. A strong, defined brow is the new shape this season, and it’ll bring attention to your eyes. Don’t pluck too much, and try using a brow pencil in a shade darker than your brows to amp up sparse areas and give more definition. Your eyes will be loving the flattering effect.

You wax ‘em, you pluck ‘em, maybe you even dye ‘em – for many women, dealing with their eyebrows is a hassle. No matter how often you head to the salon or break out the tweezers, it feels like your stubborn brows are never just the right shape. How do the stars achieve such a perfect look every single day? They’ve got a secret – and it’s called a brow pencil.

Whether you have whisper-thin, barely-there brows or naturally dark, thick ones that don’t mess around, a brow pencil can help you define shape, add color and fill in bare patches for a flawless look in no time. The right brow shape can frame your face, bring out your eyes and soften (or toughen!) your look, so follow this tutorial for perfect brows every single day.

This isn’t art class

First, it is important to remember that your eyebrows should be natural – you don’t want to look as though you’ve drawn them on with pencil (although you essentially have, of course!). This means no picking up black brow pencil when you’re a natural blonde. Blondes and redheads, if your eyebrows are barely noticeable, you can opt for a light brown that will give added definition without looking too extreme. This tip works excellent for ladies of a certain age who are starting to gray, too.

And remember, absolutely no shaving your eyebrows and starting from scratch with your new art tools. A brow pencil should enhance your natural brows, not drastically alter them. Drawn-on brows never look natural, so stay away from anything too severe.

The right color makes all the difference

Pick a color that’s close to your natural shade. Blondes and redheads can go a few shades darker, while deep brunettes may want to go a shade or two lighter to avoid creating jet-black brows. The hue you choose should be able to easily blend into the surrounding hair. You don’t want it to look as though your natural eyebrow hair is sitting on top of a paint-shop swatch of color!

Keep a light touch

Brow pencil isn’t eyeliner, so don’t apply it like you’re lining your lids. Additionally, don’t draw an outline of your ideal eyebrow and start shading it in – it’ll look far too heavy-handed. Instead, you should gently draw tiny hairs by using short, staccato strokes in and around your existing brows. If you’ve got an area that’s overplucked or awkwardly sparse, you can fill it in by using a slightly heavier hand while drawing.

The trick to pulling off this look perfectly is making sure that eyebrow pencil is sharpened before you begin. With a sharp brow pencil, you can draw realistic hairs that’ll blend in with and enhance your natural brows.

Don’t forget to set!

To make sure your brow pencil doesn’t smudge or fade throughout the day, set your now-perfect brows with a hint of translucent powder or a makeup setting spray. Just be careful not to apply too much, or your brows will look dusty and clouded.

Finish up with your usual makeup routine, applying eyeliner, shadow and mascara. If you find yourself making a little extra eye contact with that hottie at the coffee shop today, don’t be surprised – he can’t help himself! Thanks to your flawless brows, all his attention is focused right on your peepers, so he just can’t keep himself from looking into your beautiful eyes.

The turn of our cultural attention onto the amazing properties of mineral makeup hasn’t come without its price. Having been touted for some time now as the leader of the natural makeup revolution, mineral makeup is now drawing some criticism from health and beauty experts who say this organic stuff might have some dangerous pitfalls. Navigating this field of information may be tricky, but learning some basic facts and arguments will help you wrap your head around the current debate.

On one hand, mineral makeup appeals to the increasingly “green” sensibilities of our society. As we turn away from processed foods, non-biodegradable materials and energy-sapping materials and practices, we’re that much more likely to see the appeal in a new variety of cosmetics that promises to come directly from the Earth, sans dyes, preservatives and chemicals. Mineral makeup touts itself as being better for the skin, with the ability to actually improve one’s complexion over time. It blends more seamlessly into the skin than most standard liquid foundations, producing a healthier, more natural-looking glow unrivalled by the makeup of the past.

While all of this may indeed be true, health experts are concerned that these so-called Earth-friendly products aren’t necessarily human-friendly. Not every natural compound necessarily agrees with our bodies, and the same goes for mineral makeup, which can contain trace amounts of harmful substances. The loose powder composition of most mineral makeup means that we musn’t merely be concerned with the effects these products may have on our skin when absorbed through topical application, but the trace amounts of minerals we can inhale when bringing this product so close to our faces.

“The little particles, fibers, get into the peripheral, the small parts of the lungs, and irritate cells,” pulmonary specialist Dr. Hugo Montenegro told ABC News.

According to the news source, the two substances of concern to the Environmental Working Group are bismuth oxycholoride and mica. The former is actually a by-product of lead and the latter is dangerous when inhaled in large quantities, hence why miners and construction workers wear masks when they work.

Some beauty experts suggest sticking to liquid mineral makeup formulas if these potential respiratory complications are of concern, but the debate continues to rage on where effectiveness is concerned.

“Those who love it rave about the light, natural, long-lasting glow that simply can’t be duplicated by other types of makeup,” Web MD observes. “Others, however, complain it’s drying, irritating, and accentuates wrinkles and adds years to your appearance. Some say the colors have an ashy undertone that is a particular problem for ethnic skin types.”

Even health experts are divided regarding the supposed “purity” of such formulas, with some maintaining that the absence of irritants makes it kinder to the skin, while others claim that mineral makeup is hardly different than the makeup women have been using for years, the news soruce reports. Experts maintain that mineral makeup is especially advantageous for those with sensitive skin conditions such as acne and rosacea, which encounter a calming effect thanks to the non-comedongenic properties of the natural ingredients. Plus, for those with skin conditions, mineral makeup is undeniably desirable for its ability to provide near-perfect-looking coverage.

So what’s the verdict?

According to Web MD, you should take care to read the label, as with any beauty or food product. Not all mineral makeup companies actually steer clear from using fillers and preservatives. If you can find a brand that stays true to its promise withoutthe use of mica or bismuth oxycholoride, what’s not to love?

For a look that shouldn’t make you appear much different than your natural self, there are so many ways to pull off a nude makeup style, especially if you’re yearning for some versatility in your morning (or evening) routine. To help you navigate the sea of flattering, effortless choices, here’s a quick pocket guide that will assist you in making up your mind as well as your face.

For your glow

There’s so much that goes in to having great skin, but most of it can be explained rather simply. Eat well, stay well-rested, drink plenty of water and get your weekly dose of fitness. As the largest organ on your body, your skin presents a tangible reflection of your body’s health, so great skincare always starts with great youcare.

Beyond that, there are quality skincare products available that will help you slip into your most beautiful skin yet. Remember – the key to a natural makeup look is having a beautiful complexion that speaks for itself. Your skincare routine will ultimately be devised based on your skin type and individual set of needs, but virtually every woman’s regimen should involve a non-drying cleanser, toner, moisturizer, night cream and any other supplements and serums you might need to target specific concerns.

When your skin is hydrated and healthy, you probably won’t require too much makeup to achieve a flawless complexion, but for whatever problem areas your routine doesn’t correct on its own, using high quality foundations, concealers and powders can help you get that extra boost.

For a timeless, natural look, mineral makeup has been all the rage as of late. Many formulas, such as BABOR Mineral Powder Foundation, are designed to do the work of three products in one, offering unbeatable coverage with a matte, natural finish that conceals as it evens out your skin tone.

Once you’ve got a flawless base, making your complexion pop with some subtle hints of blush and highlighting creams is the perfect finish for a radiant mug. Stick to a cream or powder blush in the rose or peach color family, striving to stick to shades that closely match the tone of your natural glow. Swirl onto the apples of your cheeks and up toward your temple, adding a little to your forehead or nose to finish off a natural sun-kissed glow. Dab a highlighting cream on your cheekbones, temples and browbones to add subtle definition and a romantic dewy glow.

For eyes that sparkle in their own right

Eye makeup is arguably where ladies tend to have the most liberty, so it may be hard to restrain yourself when trying to stick to a nude theme.

Remember, though – a natural aesthetic doesn’t have to look bare, so feather on the mascara and groom those brows as you normally would (structured brows are actually key to pulling off a natural look).

Eyeliner, if used at all, should be kept to natural, neutral tones of brown, navy or gray and applied in short, feathery strokes to the inner lash line and blended softly onto the upper lid.

As for shadows, feel free to play around with any combination of beiges, champagnes, taupes, bronzes and coppers – anything to give your lids an extra pop of shimmer without straying too far from your natural skin tone. If you’re feeling playful, don’t think you need to rule out all the fun – a hint of gold shimmer near your upper and lower lash line will blend right into your tawny look but feature just the right amount of glamour for a night out.

Pout if you want to

As the last (but certainly not the least) part of your makeup routine, lips can be left about as bare as a button or dressed up in a lovely shimmery gloss. Nude makeup looks aren’t the time to break out your bold berry lipstick, but a light lipstain that closely matches your natural coloring will add just a hint of color to your lips without looking overly obvious.

Some nude fashions go for an altogether muted mouth, which is best achieved with a skin-colored lipstick or by applying concealer to your mouth before finishing with a coat of balm or gloss. The result is high-fashion and always chic.

If you’ve already had it up to here with “the royal wedding this” and “the royal wedding that,” have mercy on us. We couldn’t help but be intrigued by Kate Middleton’s choice to do her own makeup for the grand affair, especially when you bear in mind the vast influence she’s had over feminine style and sensibility.

Perhaps Miss Middleton is here to teach us that you don’t need to shell out big bucks in order to look your best, especially if you already look amazing given the makeup skills you’ve perfected over the years.

Either way, we’re sure some of you are clamoring for a piece of the royal pie too – here are some basic do-it-yourself beauty tips, inspired by the ever glamorous and practical Kate.

Skin

Ever wondered how Kate managed to keep her skin so radiant and flawless through the months-long media circus that ensued following her engagement? Alright, we relent, not all of us have our photographs airbrushed when we make public appearances, but at least we can’t chalk this one up to our lack of a team of professional makeup artists.

Fortunately for us, it’s not beyond our grasp to get our hands on the same products that Kate relies on to nourish her dewy complexion. Ever since she was introduced to them by a friend, Kate swears by products developed by Swiss beauty brand Karin Herzog, according to Style.com. Karin Herzog’s U.K. managing director, Julie Cichocki, told the news source that Kate uses the Professional Cleanser, the Vita-A-Kombi 1, the Vita-A-Kombi 3 Spot Zapper and the Oxygen Face Cream.

This last ingredient in particular is something that will let women everywhere breathe a little easier – Karin Herzog was one of the first companies to use oxygen in its beauty products.

“Stress is the number one culprit for depleting oxygen in the skin, and, poor girl, what could be more stressful than an international announcement of a royal wedding, with cameras from every news agency pointed at you,” Cichocki told the news source. “A wedding of any kind is stressful for a bride, and still, her skin looked just beautiful – dewy, plump, fresh.”

Hair

You and I both know that we wouldn’t be so captivated by Kate’s effortless glamor if it weren’t for those commercial-worthy chestnut locks.

Kate’s hair is the next shiniest thing besides her engagement ring, so ladies who want to cop her look should reach for moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. A shine-enhacing serum or spritzer can help add a little extra reflective oomph.

As for that classic polished style, Glamour.com instructs women everywhere to nab it for themselves using “the round-brush twist.”

“Using a medium-sized, boar-bristle round brush, blow out your hair as usual, until it’s about 80 percent dry,” the news source explains. “Then start rolling sections onto the brush and [flip] it vertical to your head. Hold each section that way and blast with heat from the dryer for several seconds, then pull the brush straight down until the hair slides up and off.”

Voila – you’ve got sleek, subtle ringlets that will make for a rather royal impression.

Makeup

Last but not least, the moment you’ve all been waiting for – the beauty prowess that is now so accessible to women everywhere. Kate has inspired many with her clean, basic makeup that bodes well for a run down the grocery aisle just as well as it does for a professional photoshoot.

With the already-impeccable complexion you acquired thanks to Kate’s skincare regimen, apply just enough tinted moisturizer or foundation to even out your skintone.

A soft, rosy blush paired with sheer pink or neutral gloss will add the subtlest tint of color to lips and cheeks, as eyes are what tend to steal the show in true Middletonian fashion. A basic rim of black or dark brown liner applied to the top and bottom lash line is of utmost importance, followed by a couple coats of black mascara and a pencil or mousse to get those brows in tip-top shape.

If you thought that was easy, rest assured – the hard part largely involves waiting on that prince to show.
